What does the exhaust valve do?
The exhaust valve seals the combustion chamber during the compression and power strokes and opens on the exhaust stroke to release burnt gases into the exhaust port. This one fits the 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine (JV6) in the Jaguar S-Type, X-Type, XF and XJ.
How many exhaust valves should I order?
Order exhaust valves as a set for the cylinder head you are rebuilding, since the JV6 V6 uses multiple exhaust valves per cylinder across both banks. Count the valves on your engine before ordering, as it is normal to renew them as a matched set when the heads are reconditioned.
Why do exhaust valves fail?
Exhaust valves run very hot and can burn, pit or lose their seal over high mileage, causing misfires, lost compression and poor running. On the Jaguar JV6 V6 a burnt exhaust valve is usually found during a compression or leak-down test and is renewed as part of a head overhaul.
