Brand Lucas
Coolant Temperature Transmitter - Black mounted at the thermostat housing, supplying the coolant temperature signal to the instrument cluster temperature gauge.

This sender converts coolant temperature to a variable resistance signal. The black body colour identifies this specific calibration variant, distinguishing it from other colour-coded coolant temperature senders in the Land Rover range - using the incorrect colour variant will cause an inaccurate gauge reading.

Frequently asked questions

What is the AMR3321LUCAS temperature sensor and what does it do?
The AMR3321LUCAS is the coolant temperature transmitter that drives the temperature gauge in the instrument cluster. It's mounted at the thermostat housing and converts coolant temperature into a variable resistance signal for the gauge. This is the OEM Lucas sender, Land Rover part number AMR3321.
Where is this temperature sender fitted on the engine?
This sender fits at the thermostat housing. On the Defender it's the 300Tdi engine; on the Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic it's the 3.9 V8 petrol. It reads coolant temperature at that point and sends the signal to the dash gauge, so it's not the same as an ECU coolant sensor.
Why is this sensor black, and does the colour matter?
The black body colour marks this sender's specific calibration, and yes it matters. Fitting a different colour-coded coolant sender changes the resistance curve and gives an inaccurate gauge reading. Match the black variant to the one you're removing so the gauge reads correctly.
How do I confirm this sensor fits my Land Rover?
This fits the Defender 1987 to 2006 with the 300Tdi, the Discovery 1 1989 to 1998 with the 3.9 V8 petrol, and the Range Rover Classic 1970 to 1994 with the 3.9 V8 petrol. Check your engine and match the black colour variant to your existing sender before ordering.
