Frequently asked questions

What does the luggage compartment door stay do?
The door stay restrains the lower tailgate (luggage compartment door) on the Discovery 3 (2005-2009) and Discovery 4 (2010-2016). It limits how far the door swings open and supports it in the open position, taking the load so the hinge isn't over-extended. This is the left-hand stay.
Is this the left or right stay, and how many are fitted?
This is the left-hand door stay. The lower tailgate typically uses a stay on each side, so the right-hand stay is a separate part. If both sides feel loose or won't hold the door open, you'll usually replace them as a pair.
How do I know if the door stay has failed?
A failed door stay usually lets the lower tailgate drop under its own weight or swing past its normal stop. On the Discovery 3 and 4 you'll typically feel the door no longer holding in the open position, or notice play at the stay. Replace the affected side to restore controlled opening.
