Brand AMV
Freewheeling Hub Conversion Kit - a matched pair of AVM manual locking freewheeling hubs that replace the standard fixed drive flanges on the front hubs.

The hubs let the front wheels be mechanically disconnected from the front driveshafts when four-wheel drive is not required, leaving the front axle, differential and front propshaft undriven to reduce wear and rolling drag on the road. Turning the external control knob from free to lock drives a set of angled grooves onto a heat-treated steel clutch ring, interlocking the inner and outer drive members to restore drive to the front wheels; separate springs handle engagement and disengagement.

Supplied as a left-and-right pair.
Vehicle Model Land Rover Defender up to 2016
Fitment Notes DEFENDER 1993-2016 — 90
Includes a transfer box conversion.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Freewheeling Hub Conversion Kit for?
The Freewheeling Hub Conversion Kit replaces the fixed drive flanges on the front hubs with manual locking hubs, letting you mechanically disconnect the front wheels from the driveshafts. On a Land Rover Defender up to 2016, this leaves the front axle, differential and propshaft undriven on the road to cut wear and rolling drag.
How many hubs come in the kit?
The kit includes a matched left-and-right pair of freewheeling hubs, enough to convert both front hubs on a Defender. It's sold as a complete pair, so one kit covers the full front axle conversion.
Does this kit need any other modification to work?
Yes. This kit includes a transfer box conversion. A standard Defender runs permanent four-wheel drive, so the transfer box has to be converted alongside the hubs for the free and lock function to actually disconnect front drive.
Which Land Rover does this conversion fit?
This conversion kit fits the Land Rover Defender 90 from 1993 to 2016. Use your VIN to confirm your Defender falls in that range before ordering, since the conversion is specific to the permanent four-wheel drive setup.
