Timing Chain - the upper chain of a two-stage (duplex) timing drive.
In this arrangement a lower chain drives an intermediate sprocket from the crankshaft, and this upper chain carries the drive on to the camshaft sprockets to maintain correct valve timing. It runs behind the timing cover and is held in tension by the chain adjuster. The companion lower chain is supplied separately.
