Frequently asked questions

What does the fuel tank sender unit do?
The fuel tank sender unit tracks the fuel level in the left-hand tank and sends that reading to the dashboard fuel gauge. A float rides on the fuel surface and moves a variable resistor, so as the level drops the changing resistance moves the gauge needle.
Is this the left or right sender, and does the other side differ?
This is the left-hand (LH) unit for the LH tank of the twin-tank setup on the Jaguar XJ6 Series 1/2 and XJ12 Series 1/2. The right-hand tank takes a separate matching RH sender, so confirm which side you're replacing before ordering.
What are the signs a fuel sender needs replacing?
A failing sender typically shows as a stuck, erratic, or dead fuel gauge, or a reading that jumps as you drive. The float or the internal resistor track wears with age. On this twin-tank car a fault usually affects only the gauge reading for that one tank.
