Battery Clamp Turnbuckle is the threaded hold-down fitting that secures the battery within the battery tray.

The turnbuckle engages the battery clamp bar and, when tightened, draws it down firmly onto the top of the battery to prevent movement under vibration and off-road loads. It forms part of the battery mounting assembly and is replaced when the thread corrodes or seizes and the battery can no longer be clamped securely.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Battery Clamp Turnbuckle and what does it do?
The Battery Clamp Turnbuckle is the threaded hold-down fitting that secures the battery in its tray on the Land Rover Discovery 2. It engages the clamp bar and draws it down onto the top of the battery, holding it firmly against vibration and off-road movement.
Which Discovery 2 engines does this turnbuckle suit?
On the Land Rover Discovery 2 the turnbuckle secures the battery clamp on both the Td5 2.5L five-cylinder diesel and the V8 petrol. It sits in the battery tray and threads into the clamp bar to hold the battery down.
When does the battery clamp turnbuckle need replacing?
The turnbuckle is usually replaced when its thread corrodes or seizes and the battery can no longer be clamped down tightly. One turnbuckle typically secures a single battery clamp. Seizing is common on vehicles used off-road or exposed to road salt.
