Why do exhaust valves fail on the V12?
Exhaust valves fail on the Jaguar V12 through heat and burning, as they run much hotter than inlet valves and can lose their seat seal. A burnt exhaust valve shows as a misfire and low compression on the affected cylinder. Worn guides speed this up by letting the valve rock.
How many exhaust valves does the V12 need?
The Jaguar V12 has twelve cylinders with one exhaust valve each in its two-valve-per-cylinder layout, so twelve exhaust valves in total. They're sold individually. Valves are usually renewed as a set during a head rebuild to keep sealing and wear even across the bank.
