What does 2nd oversize mean for this valve guide?
2nd oversize means the guide has an enlarged outside diameter, cut to fit a cylinder head whose guide bore has been reamed out for reconditioning. Check which oversize your head has been machined to before ordering, as a standard or 1st-oversize guide won't grip in a bore reamed to 2nd oversize.
When are exhaust valve guides replaced?
Exhaust valve guides are replaced during a cylinder head overhaul when they wear, letting the valve rock and seat poorly. Worn guides on these Jaguar engines cause increased oil consumption and blue smoke as oil drains past the stem. The oversize guide restores a tight fit in a reamed head.
