Brand Waxstat
Thermostat for the engine cooling circuit. Housed between the cylinder block coolant outlet and the radiator hose, it regulates coolant flow to bring the engine up to operating temperature quickly and hold it within its designed range.

The valve stays closed while the engine warms, then opens progressively as coolant temperature rises to route flow through the radiator. A thermostat stuck open causes slow warm-up and poor heater performance; one stuck closed causes overheating.
Fitment Notes JAGUAR — Thermostat. Fits XJ (X300) 1995-1997 3.2/4.0L; XJ6/XJ12 (XJ40) 2.9/3.2/3.6/4.0L; XJS 3.6/4.0L.

Frequently asked questions

What is the EBC3621-G thermostat and what does it do?
The EBC3621-G is the engine coolant thermostat. It sits between the block coolant outlet and the radiator hose, staying closed while the engine warms then opening to route coolant through the radiator, bringing the engine to operating temperature quickly and holding it in range.
Which Jaguar models does this thermostat fit?
This thermostat fits the Jaguar XJ (X300) 1995-1997 (3.2/4.0L), XJ6/XJ12 (XJ40) 2.9/3.2/3.6/4.0L, and XJS 3.6/4.0L. It's a Waxstat unit. Check your engine before ordering, as housing details vary across the range.
What are the signs the thermostat needs replacing?
A thermostat stuck open causes slow warm-up and poor heater performance; one stuck closed causes overheating. On these six-cylinder Jaguar engines, erratic temperature-gauge behaviour often points to a failing thermostat. It's usually renewed with a fresh seal.
