Frequently asked questions

What is the ERC9220 dome nut used for?
The ERC9220 dome nut secures the rocker (cam) cover to the cylinder head. The closed dome caps the stud and clamps the cover down onto its gasket, sealing the top of the engine. It's fitted to Land Rover Defender models up to 2016 with the four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.
How many dome nuts are needed for a rocker cover job?
Typically one dome nut sits on each rocker cover stud, so a full cover usually needs several. The exact count depends on your engine, so check how many studs your rocker cover has before ordering. They're sold individually, so order the full set if you're refreshing all of them during a gasket change.
Should the dome nuts be replaced when changing the rocker cover gasket?
Dome nuts can usually be reused if they're clean and the threads are undamaged. It's common to replace them when they're corroded or the dome is pitted, since a clean seat helps clamp the cover evenly onto its gasket. Swapping them while the rocker cover is off is cheap insurance against leaks.
