Front Crankshaft Oil Seal for the 2.5L 300TDi turbo diesel engine. It fits around the crankshaft nose at the front of the engine, sealing the point where the crankshaft passes through the timing cover.

The seal runs against the rotating crankshaft to retain oil at the front of the engine and prevent leakage along the shaft. It is moulded in Viton (FKM) for resistance to heat and oil.

Frequently asked questions

What does the front crankshaft oil seal do on a 300TDi?
The front crankshaft oil seal fits around the crankshaft nose where it passes through the timing cover on the 2.5L 300TDi diesel engine. It runs against the rotating crankshaft to retain engine oil at the front and stop leaks along the shaft. Fitted to Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic 300TDi models.
Why does the front crankshaft seal leak and when should it be replaced?
The front crankshaft seal leaks when the rubber lip hardens or wears a groove against the shaft, dripping oil at the front of the engine. Replace it when it shows oil seepage, or when the timing belt is off since access is far easier with the front cover apart.
Can I fit this seal myself?
Fitting the front crankshaft seal typically means removing the timing belt and front cover, so it's usually done alongside a timing belt job rather than alone. A seal driver helps seat it square. This is the inner front seal for the 300TDi crankshaft.
