Drive Belt Idler Pulley for the auxiliary (accessory) belt drive of the Td5 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

The pulley mounts above the water pump and power-steering pulley, occupying the position taken by the air-conditioning compressor on air-conditioned vehicles. On Td5 engines without air conditioning it guides the auxiliary drive belt across that part of the belt path, maintaining correct belt wrap and alignment. Spin the pulley by hand when servicing the belt and renew it if the bearing is rough, noisy or has play.

What does this idler pulley actually do on the Td5?
This is an idler pulley for the auxiliary (accessory) drive belt on the Td5 2.5L 5-cylinder turbo diesel engine, not a timing component. The Td5 timing drive uses a chain. The pulley guides the accessory belt across the front of the engine, keeping correct belt wrap and alignment.
Does this fit Td5 engines with air conditioning?
No. It fits Td5 engines without air conditioning, where it takes the position the air-conditioning compressor occupies on AC vehicles. On the Defender and Discovery 2 Td5 without AC it carries the auxiliary belt across that part of the path. Don't fit it where an AC compressor is present.
When should the idler pulley be replaced?
Spin the pulley by hand when servicing the auxiliary belt and renew it if the bearing feels rough, noisy or has play. A seized idler can throw or shred the belt, so it's worth checking the pulley whenever the belt is off.
