Exhaust Valve for the cylinder head on the Td5 2.5L five-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

Frequently asked questions

What does the exhaust valve do on the Td5 engine?
The exhaust valve seals the combustion chamber against the exhaust port on the Td5 2.5L five-cylinder diesel and opens on the exhaust stroke to release spent gases into the manifold. It runs in the valve guide and seats against the exhaust valve seat.
How many exhaust valves are needed for the Td5?
The Td5 is a 10-valve engine with one exhaust valve per cylinder, so a full head typically needs five exhaust valves. They're usually renewed as a set during a cylinder head overhaul rather than singly, to keep sealing and wear consistent.
Why do Td5 exhaust valves need replacing?
Td5 exhaust valves burn and wear over time, and a worn or pitted valve typically causes compression loss, poor starting and misfire. They're renewed during a head recon, usually alongside the valve guides and seats, to restore a gas-tight seal.
Which Land Rovers does this exhaust valve fit?
This exhaust valve fits the Defender (1998-2006) and Discovery 2 with the 2.5L Td5 five-cylinder turbo diesel. Check your engine is the Td5 before ordering, as other diesel engines use different valves.
