Flywheel Assembly for the manual transmission on the 2.5L 200 TDi and 300 TDi turbo diesel engines.

Bolted to the rear of the crankshaft, the flywheel stores rotational inertia to smooth engine running and presents the friction face against which the clutch driven plate is clamped. Its integral toothed ring gear engages the starter motor pinion for cranking.

Frequently asked questions

What does this flywheel assembly do?
This flywheel assembly bolts to the back of the crankshaft on the 2.5L 200 TDi and 300 TDi engines. It stores inertia to keep the engine turning smoothly, provides the clutch friction face, and its ring gear meshes with the starter for cranking.
What vehicles and engines does this flywheel suit?
This flywheel suits the Defender, Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic with the 2.5L 200 TDi or 300 TDi and 5-speed manual. VIN ranges apply, Discovery 1 FA393361 to WA799999 and Range Rover Classic from JA610294, so confirm your VIN first.
Is there another part number that matches this flywheel?
Yes, this flywheel cross-references to ERR4908 for the 2.5L 200/300 TDi manual fitment. Check your engine and gearbox against that spec before ordering, so the friction face and ring gear are right for your clutch.
When is a flywheel replacement needed?
A flywheel is usually replaced or refaced during a clutch job if the friction surface is scored or heat-cracked, or the starter ring gear teeth are chipped. Fitting it alongside the clutch saves removing the gearbox a second time later.
