Valve Guide for the cylinder head on the Td5 2.5L five-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

Pressed into the head, the guide supports the valve stem and keeps the valve aligned with its seat as it opens and closes. It also carries heat away from the stem into the head. Guides are renewed during a head overhaul to restore the correct stem-to-guide clearance.

Frequently asked questions

What does the valve guide do on the Td5?
The valve guide is pressed into the Td5 cylinder head and supports the valve stem, keeping the valve aligned with its seat as it opens and closes. It also carries heat away from the stem into the head on the 2.5L Td5 diesel.
How many valve guides does a Td5 head need?
The Td5 is a 10-valve engine, so a full cylinder head overhaul can use up to ten valve guides. They're renewed to restore the correct stem-to-guide clearance, and are usually done as a set when the head is reconditioned.
Why are valve guides replaced?
Valve guides wear over time, and worn guides typically cause oil consumption, blue smoke and poor valve sealing. They're renewed during a head recon, usually alongside the valves and seats, to restore correct clearance and a good seal on the Td5.
Which Land Rovers does this valve guide fit?
This valve guide fits the Defender (1998-2006) and Discovery 2 with the 2.5L Td5 five-cylinder turbo diesel. Confirm your engine is the Td5 before ordering, as other engines use different cylinder head components.
