Genuine Part
Genuine: Original manufacturer part. This product is the original part designed and produced by the vehicle manufacturer.
High Range Intermediate Gear for the LT95 four-speed gearbox with integral transfer case, as used behind the V8 engine.

The gear is carried on the intermediate shaft assembly within the transfer case and transmits drive through the transfer gear train when high range is selected.

Correct setup on the intermediate shaft is critical. The thrust washers and end-float on this shaft are a recognised weak point of the LT95, so bearing preload and end-float must be checked and set on assembly to prevent premature wear and failure.

Frequently asked questions

What is the FRC2636 intermediate gear and what does it do?
The FRC2636 is the high range intermediate gear for the LT95 four-speed gearbox with integral transfer case, fitted behind the V8. It sits on the intermediate shaft and transmits drive through the transfer gear train when high range is selected.
Which Land Rovers use the LT95 high range intermediate gear?
The LT95 high range intermediate gear fits Series 2 and 3 V8 Stage 1 models and the Range Rover Classic, both running the LT95 gearbox with integral transfer case.
What should I check when fitting this intermediate gear?
Check intermediate shaft end-float and the thrust washers on assembly. These are a recognised weak point of the LT95, so bearing preload and end-float must be set correctly to prevent premature wear of the gear.
Why do LT95 intermediate gears wear or fail?
LT95 intermediate gears typically wear when the intermediate shaft thrust washers wear and end-float grows, letting the gear move out of correct mesh. This usually shows as whine or noise from the transfer gears in high range.
