Gearchange Rod Pin is a pivot pin used in the gearchange rod assembly of the manual gearbox shift linkage.

It locates and retains the gearchange rod to its mating linkage component, allowing the rod to pivot as lever movement is transferred through the selector mechanism. A small wear and service item replaced when the linkage develops play.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Gearchange Rod Pin do?
The gearchange rod pin is a pivot pin in the manual gearbox shift linkage. It locates and retains the gearchange rod to its mating linkage, letting the rod pivot as your lever movement passes through the selector mechanism. Fitted to the Defender with LT77S and LT85 gearboxes.
When should the gearchange rod pin be replaced?
Replace the gearchange rod pin when the shift linkage develops play or the gearchange feels vague and notchy. It's a small wear item, and a worn pin lets the rod move on its pivot, blurring gear selection. Typically renewed during a linkage overhaul.
How many gearchange rod pins do I need?
Typically one gearchange rod pin is used per linkage joint, though it's worth checking your gearchange rod assembly as more than one pivot point may be present. It's a Genuine Land Rover part for the Defender gearchange rod assembly.
