Frequently asked questions

What does the FRC9526 circlip do in the LT77 gearbox?
The FRC9526 circlip retains the mainshaft gears in axial position on the LT77 five-speed gearbox mainshaft. It's a spring-steel retaining ring that seats in a groove on the shaft, holding the gear stack in place so the gears can't shift sideways along the mainshaft.
Which Land Rovers does this LT77 mainshaft circlip fit?
This mainshaft circlip fits the Land Rover Defender (1987-2006), Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic with the five-speed manual gearbox mainshaft gears, including 4-cylinder and V8 petrol Discovery 1 applications. It's an internal transmission part specific to that gear cluster.
Can the mainshaft circlip be reused or should it be replaced?
Replace the mainshaft circlip whenever it's removed. Circlips typically lose tension once expanded over the shaft, so a reused ring can fail to hold the gear stack securely. It's a low-cost part usually renewed as standard any time the LT77 mainshaft is dismantled during a rebuild.
