Frequently asked questions

What does the rear stub axle do?
The rear stub axle bolts to the outer end of the Salisbury axle casing and forms the fixed spindle the rear hub rotates on. It carries the inner and outer hub bearings and locates the hub and brake components, while the drive shaft passes through its bore to the differential.
Which models does this rear stub axle fit?
This rear stub axle fits the Salisbury rear axle on the Defender 110 and 130 built 1983 to 2006, from VIN LA930456. It's specific to the Salisbury axle, so confirm your Defender has the Salisbury rear axle before ordering.
When does a rear stub axle need replacing?
A rear stub axle typically needs replacing if the bearing surfaces are scored, worn or pitted, or if it's been damaged by a collapsed hub bearing. Worn surfaces stop the new bearings seating correctly, so inspect the stub axle whenever renewing rear hub bearings.
