Baulk Ring - 1st-2nd Gear - LT77 is the synchroniser baulk ring for the 1st/2nd gear synchroniser in the LT77 5-speed manual gearbox.

During a gearchange its friction cone bears against the gear's cone to match their rotational speeds before the synchroniser sleeve engages, allowing clash-free selection of 1st and 2nd gears. Fitted to LT77 manual transmission applications.

Frequently asked questions

What does the FTC2282 baulk ring do in the LT77 gearbox?
The FTC2282 is the synchroniser baulk ring for the 1st/2nd gear synchro in the LT77 5-speed manual gearbox. During a change its friction cone grips the gear's cone to match their speeds before the synchro sleeve engages, giving clash-free selection of 1st and 2nd.
What are the symptoms of a worn 1st/2nd baulk ring?
A worn baulk ring usually shows as a crunch or block when selecting 1st or 2nd, often worst when the gearbox is cold. As the friction cone wears it can no longer match gear speeds quickly. It's typically renewed during any LT77 synchro overhaul rather than reused.
Which Land Rovers use the FTC2282 baulk ring?
The FTC2282 fits the LT77 5-speed manual gearbox in the Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1, and Range Rover Classic. SAP lists it for the LT77 with suffix H, so confirm your gearbox build matches before ordering.
