Frequently asked questions

What is the FTC3705 rear propshaft and what does it do?
The FTC3705 rear propshaft transmits drive from the transfer box rear output flange to the rear axle differential. It carries a universal joint at each end and a sliding spline that absorbs suspension movement between the transfer box and the rear axle. It's fitted to Discovery 1, Discovery 2 and Range Rover Classic.
Which vehicles does the FTC3705 rear propshaft fit?
The FTC3705 fits the Land Rover Discovery 1 (1989 to 1998, VIN FA393361 to WA799999), Discovery 2 (1998 to 2004) and Range Rover Classic (1992 to 1994, from VIN JA610294). Check your VIN against these ranges, since earlier vehicles used a different rear shaft.
Has the FTC3705 been superseded, and what is the alternative code?
The FTC3705 rear propshaft cross-references TVB000150 and has been superseded by the later AllMakes equivalent. If your records show TVB000150, it refers to the same rear propshaft position for Discovery and Range Rover Classic. Order the current shaft listed for your VIN to confirm the right spline and length.
What are the signs the rear propshaft needs replacing?
The FTC3705 rear propshaft typically needs replacing when its universal joints wear or seize, or the sliding spline becomes worn, producing vibration, a clunk on drive take-up or a knock under load. On Discovery and Range Rover Classic the universal joints are the usual failure point.
