Drive Shaft Oil Seal for the front and rear hub assemblies.

This lip seal fits at the inboard end of the front and rear hub carriers, sealing axle oil within the differential and axle housing against the rotating drive shaft. It prevents lubricant loss at the point where the drive shaft exits the hub assembly. One seal is required per hub; two are typically replaced as a pair per axle.

Frequently asked questions

What is the drive shaft oil seal for?
The drive shaft oil seal is a lip seal at the inboard end of the rear hub on the Range Rover P38. It seals axle oil against the rotating drive shaft, preventing lubricant loss where the shaft exits the hub assembly. It keeps oil out of the brake and hub area.
Which vehicle does this oil seal fit?
This drive shaft oil seal fits the Range Rover P38 (1994-2001) with 4-wheel ABS, on the rear hub and driveshaft. Confirm your vehicle has the 4-wheel ABS hub setup before ordering, as seal fitment depends on the hub type.
How many drive shaft oil seals do I need?
You typically need one drive shaft oil seal per hub, so a pair is usually replaced together across the axle. Renewing both sides at once is common practice, since the hub has to be dismantled to reach the seal and the second side is likely to fail soon after.
What are the signs this oil seal needs replacing?
A failed drive shaft oil seal typically shows as axle oil weeping at the rear hub, oil contamination near the brakes, or a damp, oily hub flange. Hardened or split seals leak under load. Replace it whenever the hub is dismantled or oil loss appears at the hub.
