Upper Engine Tie Bar forming the upper restraint in the engine mounting assembly.

This tie bar connects the engine to the vehicle body at the upper mounting point, resisting the tendency of the engine and transmission unit to rock longitudinally under acceleration and braking loads. It works in conjunction with the lower rubber engine mounts to locate the powertrain within the engine bay.

Compatible with both the 1.8L K-Series petrol and 2.0L L-Series TCIE diesel engine variants.

Frequently asked questions

What does this engine mount do on the Freelander 1?
This engine mount is the upper engine tie bar on the Freelander 1. It restrains the engine and transmission from rocking back and forth under acceleration and braking, working alongside the lower rubber mounts to locate the powertrain in the bay.
Which Freelander 1 engines does it fit?
It fits the Freelander 1 with either the 1.8L K-Series petrol or the 2.0L L-Series TCIE diesel engine. The upper tie bar is shared across both engine variants, restraining the powertrain at the top mounting point.
What are the signs the engine tie bar needs replacing?
Worn tie bar bushes typically show up as a clunk or knock from the engine on the Freelander 1 when you lift or brake, along with extra engine movement. Replace it once the rubber bush is cracked, perished or has split.
