On-plug ignition coil for V8 petrol engines using a coil-on-plug ignition system.

The coil mounts directly onto the spark plug in the cylinder head, replacing the conventional HT lead. It is switched by the engine management system and steps the low-voltage primary supply up to the high voltage needed to produce the spark. One coil is fitted per cylinder, so a single failed coil affects one cylinder only.
