Coolant Temperature Sensor for the 2.2L DW12 common-rail diesel engine (Td4/SD4), mounted in the thermostat housing.

The sensor is a thermistor sitting in the coolant flow leaving the cylinder head. Its resistance falls as coolant temperature rises, and the engine control unit reads that signal to set cold-start enrichment and injection timing, control the cooling fan and drive the temperature display.

A drifting or open-circuit sensor typically shows as over-fuelling, a fan running continuously, or a stored coolant temperature fault code.
