The sensor mounts at the front hub and supplies a wheel speed signal to the ABS control module. That signal is also used by the stability control, traction control and hill descent functions, so a failed front sensor commonly triggers several warning lamps at once and disables those systems until it is replaced.

One sensor is fitted per front wheel.
