What does the air conditioning condenser do on a Discovery 3 or 4?
The air conditioning condenser is the heat-rejecting exchanger of the A/C refrigerant circuit, mounted at the front of the vehicle ahead of the cooling radiator. It takes high-pressure refrigerant vapour from the compressor and sheds its heat to the airflow, condensing it to a liquid. This Denso condenser fits the Discovery 3 and 4 2.7 V6 diesel.
Why do air conditioning condensers fail on the Discovery 3 and 4?
Condensers typically fail from stone strikes and corrosion, because they sit right at the front of the vehicle in the airflow. That leads to refrigerant leaks and an A/C system that won't cool. Debris blocking the fins also cuts performance. A condenser weeping oily residue or visibly corroded usually needs replacing.
How do I confirm this condenser fits my Discovery 3 or 4?
