Brake Pad Wear Warning Wire for the rear brake pads, part of the brake pad wear warning circuit.

The sensor wire is routed at the rear brake pad and completes a circuit that triggers the dashboard wear warning when the friction material reaches its minimum thickness. Renew together with the rear brake pads.

When should the rear wear wire be replaced?
Replace the rear pad wear warning wire whenever you renew the rear brake pads on the Discovery 5, L405 or Sport L494. Once it has triggered, the sensor loop is worn and can't be reused. A new wire restores the rear low-pad warning.
