What is the shock absorber boot for?
The shock absorber boot is a Genuine Land Rover part that sheaths the damper piston rod on the strut, keeping out grit, moisture and road debris. It fits the Discovery Sport (2015+), Freelander 2 (2006-2014) and Range Rover Evoque (2012-2018 and 2019+), protecting the damper seal so the unit lasts.
Where does the boot sit?
The boot covers the damper piston rod on the suspension strut. On the Freelander 2 it typically protects the front strut and the rear shock absorber, while on the Discovery Sport and Evoque it is fitted to the front strut. It is usually replaced alongside the damper.
Do I need a new boot with a new damper?
Fit a new boot each time the shock absorber is replaced. A torn boot lets debris reach the piston rod and typically damages the seal, cutting damper life short. A fresh Genuine boot protects the new damper on the Discovery Sport, Freelander 2 or Evoque.
