Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal seals the rear of the crankshaft where it exits the cylinder block at the flywheel end, retaining engine oil in the crankcase and preventing leakage onto the clutch or torque converter.

Fitted to the 4.4L V8 petrol engine. The seal is renewed whenever the gearbox, flywheel or rear main seal housing is removed, restoring an oil-tight seal against the rotating crankshaft.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal do?
The Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal seals the back of the crankshaft at the flywheel end on the Range Rover L322 4.4 V8 petrol (M62) engine. It keeps oil in the crankcase and stops it reaching the clutch or torque converter.
When should the rear crankshaft seal be replaced?
Renew the rear crankshaft seal whenever the gearbox, flywheel or rear seal housing is removed. The gearbox has to come out to reach it, so it's usually replaced as a matter of course while there.
What are the signs this seal is leaking?
A leaking rear crankshaft seal typically shows as oil at the bellhousing or the back of the engine. Because of its location, the leak often appears between the engine and gearbox rather than at the front.
Which vehicle does this rear seal fit?
It fits the Range Rover L322 with the 4.4 V8 petrol M62 engine. Use your VIN to confirm the engine variant before ordering, as the L322 came with several engines.
