Cylinder Head Gasket for the 2.0L four-cylinder diesel engine, sealing the joint between the cylinder head and the engine block.

It seals the combustion chambers to maintain compression and isolates the coolant and oil galleries passing between the head and block. This gasket carries the single-hole grade marking and a 1.05mm thickness. On this engine the head gasket is supplied in graded thicknesses identified by the number of holes (notches), selected to match measured piston protrusion, so the correct grade must be confirmed against the engine being rebuilt.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cylinder head gasket and what does it do?
The cylinder head gasket seals the joint between the cylinder head and engine block on the Freelander 1 2.0L diesel. It maintains combustion compression and keeps the coolant and oil galleries separated between head and block. A failed gasket lets these leak across, so it's renewed whenever the head comes off.
How do I know if I need the 1.05mm 1-hole grade?
The 1.05mm single-hole gasket is one of several graded thicknesses for this engine. Grade is identified by the number of holes (notches) and selected to match measured piston protrusion. Confirm the correct grade against the engine you're rebuilding, since the wrong thickness affects compression.
What are the signs a head gasket has failed on this engine?
Common signs of head gasket failure include coolant loss, white exhaust smoke, oil and coolant mixing, and overheating. On the Freelander 1 2.0L diesel these point to the seal breaking down between head and block. Replacement usually means removing the head and checking it for flatness.
