Camshaft Cover Gasket seals the camshaft cover (rocker cover) to the cylinder head within the valvetrain assembly of the 2.0L Td4 (M47) diesel engine.

It forms the oil-tight joint along the cover mating face, containing oil around the camshaft and valve gear and preventing leaks at the top of the cylinder head.

Frequently asked questions

What is the camshaft cover gasket and what does it do?
The camshaft cover gasket seals the camshaft cover, or rocker cover, to the cylinder head on the Land Rover Freelander 1 2.0 Td4 (M47) diesel engine. It forms the oil-tight joint along the cover mating face, keeping engine oil contained around the camshaft and valve gear at the top of the head.
What are the signs the camshaft cover gasket needs replacing?
Oil weeping or seepage at the top of the cylinder head is the usual sign the camshaft cover gasket has failed. On the Td4 M47 engine the gasket typically hardens and shrinks with heat over time, letting oil escape down the side of the block or onto the exhaust. Renew it once leaks appear.
Is fitting the camshaft cover gasket a DIY job?
Fitting the camshaft cover gasket is typically a straightforward DIY job on the Freelander 1 Td4. The cover is unbolted to access and renew the gasket, then refitted. Clean both mating faces first, and check the cover bolts and any sealing washers while the cover is off.
