Frequently asked questions

What does the wheelguard do on a Defender?
The wheelguard sits in the wheel arch area of the Defender body and shields the surrounding bodywork and underbody components from mud, water and stones thrown up by the wheel. It takes the abrasion that would otherwise strip paint and start corrosion on the panels behind it.
Why fit a new wheelguard rather than leave it off?
Leaving it off exposes the Defender inner arch and the panel joints behind it to direct spray and stone strike. Those areas typically hold moisture and start corroding, and panel repair costs far more than the guard. A missing or split guard also lets debris reach wiring and brake lines routed near the arch.
Is fitting a wheelguard a DIY job?
Yes, on most Defenders this is straightforward with hand tools. The guard typically fixes with bolts or clips into the arch, so the main work is dealing with old fixings, which are usually corroded. Clean and treat the arch area while the guard is off, since it is rarely accessible otherwise.
