Frequently asked questions

What does the NAD101420 starter motor do?
The NAD101420 starter motor cranks the Freelander 1 1.8L K-Series four-cylinder petrol engine. Its pinion engages the flywheel ring gear and the integral solenoid throws it into mesh when you turn the key. This is the OEM Denso unit for the K-Series petrol.
Does this starter fit every 1.8 K-Series Freelander?
This starter fits the Freelander 1 1.8L K-Series petrol from VIN XA643940 onward. Earlier cars below that VIN break may take a different unit. Check your chassis number against the VIN break before ordering, especially on early Freelander 1s.
What are the signs the K-Series starter is failing?
Typical signs are a single click with no crank, slow or dragging cranking, or intermittent starting that worsens when hot. The solenoid contacts and brushes usually wear over time. A tired starter on the 1.8 K-Series often struggles most on hot restarts.
Can this starter be fitted at home?
This starter can usually be fitted at home on the Freelander 1 1.8 K-Series. You'll typically disconnect the battery, remove the main feed and trigger wires, then unbolt it from the bellhousing. Hand tools are normally enough, though access around the gearbox can be tight.
