Frequently asked questions

What is the front left-hand brake pipe used for?
The front left-hand brake pipe is a pre-formed rigid steel pipe that carries brake fluid through the front of the hydraulic circuit to the left-hand front brake on the Defender 90. It's bent to the correct routing and has unions at each end to join the adjacent pipework and flexible hose.
Which Defenders does this front brake pipe fit?
This pipe fits the Defender 90 (90-inch wheelbase) without anti-lock braking and with rear drum brakes, up to VIN (V)HA701009. It won't suit vehicles with ABS or a different rear brake setup, so confirm your Defender is the non-ABS drum-rear 90 before ordering.
Is this the left-hand or right-hand pipe, and is there a matching side?
This is the left-hand front brake pipe. The right-hand front pipe is a separate part, NRC9304, so check which side you need before ordering. They mirror each other for routing on the Defender 90, and the two are not interchangeable between sides.
Why does a steel brake pipe need replacing?
A steel brake pipe usually needs replacing when it corrodes or pits on the outside, which weakens the pipe and can cause a brake fluid leak and a failed test. Any sign of rust, damage, or seeping at the unions on the Defender means the pipe should be renewed for safe braking.
