Tailpipe and silencer assembly from the rear section of the exhaust system.

It receives gas from the intermediate pipe, passes it through the silencer chamber where the flow is expanded and the pressure pulses are broken up to reduce noise, and discharges it through the tailpipe at the rear of the vehicle. The assembly is carried on rubber hangers so that driveline and body movement is not transmitted through the exhaust run.

Where does the tailpipe silencer fit?
The tailpipe silencer mounts at the rear of the exhaust on the Discovery 1, downstream of the centre section, and carries the tailpipe out past the back of the vehicle. It's the last box in the 3.5 V8 exhaust. Reference STC1428, now superseded by STC1428LR.
