Frequently asked questions

What is the NTC7689 rear brake pipe and what does it do?
The NTC7689 is a pre-formed rigid brake pipe for the left-hand side of the rear braking circuit. It carries hydraulic fluid through the rear circuit and is the LH counterpart to the matching right-hand rear pipe. It's an OEM line fitting the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.
Which models and variants does this LH rear brake pipe fit?
This LH rear brake pipe fits the Defender with non-ABS rear discs, the Discovery 1 (1989-1998) with or without ABS, and the Range Rover Classic (1986-1994) with or without ABS. Brake pipe routing changed with ABS and across build dates, so confirm your variant before ordering.
Why do rear brake pipes fail and when should this one be replaced?
Rear brake pipes typically fail through corrosion, which is common on older Land Rovers exposed to road salt and underbody moisture. Signs include fluid leaks, a soft pedal, or visible rust and pitting on the line. A corroded brake pipe can burst under pressure, so it's replaced as soon as corrosion is found.
How do I confirm this fits my Range Rover Classic by VIN?
On the Range Rover Classic this LH rear brake pipe covers 1986-1994 builds, with a build change around the 1992 model year, so use your VIN to confirm which pipe your car takes. The Discovery 1 application also runs to a defined chassis range, so checking the VIN avoids ordering the wrong line.
