Bleed screw closing a threaded vent port in the coolant and exhaust gas recirculation circuits.

Opening the screw releases air trapped at a high point in the circuit during filling or servicing, so the system can be filled completely and flow is not restricted by an air lock. The same screw is used at several venting points: in the cooling system pipes and hoses, at the radiator and coolant overflow container, and in the exhaust gas recirculation circuit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the PEI000010 bleed screw used for?
The PEI000010 bleed screw closes a threaded vent port in the cooling and exhaust gas recirculation circuits of the Range Rover L322. Opening it releases air trapped at a high point during filling or servicing, so the system fills completely without an air lock restricting flow.
Where is this bleed screw used on the L322?
On the Range Rover L322 2002-2009 this screw is used at several venting points: the cooling system pipes and hoses on the 3.0 M57 diesel, the radiator and coolant overflow container on the 4.4 V8 petrol and 3.0 diesel, and the EGR circuit on the 3.0 diesel.
Should the bleed screw be replaced when servicing the cooling system?
It's typically worth renewing the bleed screw if the thread or seal looks corroded, since a screw that won't seal leads to air locks or coolant weeps. Open it during filling to purge trapped air, then close it once a steady flow of coolant appears.
