Temperature Switch is a thermally-actuated electrical switch that threads into the engine cooling circuit and responds to coolant temperature.

As the coolant reaches its set threshold the switch changes state to make or break its electrical circuit, signalling the associated system. It seals against the coolant passage on a threaded body and is wired into the engine's electrical harness.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Temperature Switch (PRC3359) do?
The Temperature Switch is a thermally-actuated switch that threads into the engine cooling circuit and changes state at a set coolant temperature. It signals the associated system, such as a warning lamp, on engines like the 2.5 200 TDi and 300 TDi diesel.
Which Land Rover engines use this temperature switch?
This temperature switch fits the Defender (up to 2016), Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic, on the 2.5 200 TDi and 300 TDi diesel and 3.5 V8 petrol. On Discovery 1 the 200 TDi runs to VIN LA081991 and the 300 TDi from MA081992, so confirm your engine and chassis number.
What are the signs a temperature switch has failed?
A failed temperature switch typically shows as a warning light or fan that won't trigger, or a gauge reading that stays wrong. Because it seals against the coolant passage, a failing unit can also weep coolant from its threaded body on these TDi engines.
