Steering Gear - hydraulically assisted rack and pinion steering gear for left-hand drive, supplied on a remanufactured exchange basis.

The steering gear is the central element of the steering system. The pinion, driven by the intermediate shaft from the steering column, meshes with the rack bar and converts column rotation into lateral movement of the track rods and steering arms. An integral rotary control valve at the pinion directs pressurised fluid from the power steering pump to one side or the other of the rack piston, providing the hydraulic assistance that reduces steering effort.

Left-hand drive only. The rack housing, hydraulic pipe routing and track rod geometry are handed and are not interchangeable with the right-hand drive unit.



After fitting, refill the power steering reservoir and bleed the hydraulic circuit before the vehicle is driven, and check the front wheel alignment.
