Air Spring - Rear for the self-levelling rear suspension of the Discovery 2.

The Discovery 2 rear suspension uses pneumatic air springs in place of conventional coil springs. Each air spring mounts between the rear axle and the chassis, inflating and deflating via the Self-Levelling Suspension (SLS) system to maintain a consistent rear ride height under varying loads. A failed air spring typically presents as a sagging rear end, a continuously running compressor, or loss of self-levelling function. Supplied as a single air spring.

Frequently asked questions

What does the rear air spring do on a Discovery 2?
The rear air spring replaces a conventional coil spring on the Land Rover Discovery 2 (1999-2004), inflating and deflating through the Self-Levelling Suspension system to hold a constant rear ride height under load. It mounts between the rear axle and chassis. This is the Contitech OEM unit.
How many rear air springs are needed for a full repair?
Two rear air springs are typically needed to do the job properly on a Discovery 2, one per side. They usually wear at a similar rate, so replacing both at once keeps the Self-Levelling Suspension balanced. Each one is supplied individually.
What are the signs a Discovery 2 rear air spring needs replacing?
A failing rear air spring on the Discovery 2 typically shows as a sagging rear end, a compressor that runs constantly, or loss of self-levelling. Air leaks usually develop at the rubber bellows as it perishes with age, letting the rear settle overnight.
Which clips are needed to fit this air spring?
The retaining clip for this air spring is NTC9449, with two typically needed per air spring. These secure the bellows and air line connection. Check clip condition when fitting, as they're often reused but can become brittle on older vehicles.
