Frequently asked questions

What is the FTC859A front drive flange and what does it do?
The FTC859A is a front drive flange that bolts to the outer face of the front hub and engages the splined end of the axle half shaft, transmitting drive to the road wheel. This is the late narrow (thin) type, an uprated Terrafirma flange made from chromoly steel.
How many front drive flanges do I need?
Drive flanges are fitted one per front hub, so a full axle set needs two. They're often renewed in pairs to keep both sides consistent, especially when upgrading to the heavy-duty chromoly type. Each is supplied individually.
Which Land Rovers does this front drive flange fit?
This front drive flange fits the Defender from 1994 (VIN LA930456 on), Discovery 1 from VIN JA032851, and Range Rover Classic 1986-1994. Earlier vehicles used a different flange, so confirm your chassis number falls in range before ordering.
Why choose the heavy-duty chromoly drive flange?
The chromoly steel construction gives this Terrafirma flange greater strength than a standard flange, which typically helps on vehicles running larger tyres or used off-road where drivetrain shock loads are higher. It's the late narrow (thin) type.
