Track Rod End with a right-hand thread, forming part of the steering linkage.

The track rod end is the articulating ball joint that connects the track rod to the steering arm, transmitting steering input to the road wheel while allowing the joint to pivot through suspension and steering travel. The right-hand thread engages the mating track rod, and the tapered shank locates into the steering arm eye where it is retained by a castellated nut.

Supplied as a complete unit comprising the ball joint housing, tapered shank and threaded body.

Frequently asked questions

What is the track rod end used for on a Land Rover?
The track rod end is the ball joint that links the track rod to the steering arm, passing steering input to the front wheel. It sits in the front steering linkage and pivots as the suspension and steering move. This one has a right-hand thread that screws into the mating track rod.
What's the difference between a right-hand and left-hand thread track rod end?
The right-hand thread version screws in clockwise and fits the matching end of the track rod or drag link. A steering bar usually takes one right-hand and one left-hand end so the toe can be set by rotating the bar. Check which thread your old end has before ordering.
Why does a track rod end fail on these Land Rovers?
Track rod ends typically fail when the ball joint wears or the rubber boot splits and lets grit in, giving play in the steering, uneven tyre wear, or a knock over bumps. Excessive play is a common MOT failure. Replace it once the joint develops noticeable movement.
How do I confirm this track rod end fits my vehicle?
This right-hand thread track rod end fits the Defender 1987-2016, Discovery 1 from VIN JA018174, and Range Rover Classic. On Discovery 1 the VIN break matters, so check yours against JA018174. Confirm your steering setup and thread hand before ordering.
