Track Rod End with a right-hand thread, forming part of the steering linkage.

The track rod end is the articulating ball joint that connects the track rod to the steering arm, transmitting steering input to the road wheel while allowing the joint to pivot through suspension and steering travel. The right-hand thread engages the mating track rod, and the tapered shank locates into the steering arm eye where it is retained by a castellated nut.

Supplied as a complete unit comprising the ball joint housing, tapered shank and threaded body.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTC5869 track rod end and what does it do?
The RTC5869 track rod end is the articulating ball joint that connects the track rod to the steering arm on the steering linkage. It transmits steering input to the road wheel while pivoting through suspension and steering travel. This one has a right-hand thread and fits the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.
How many track rod ends come in the box, and how many do I need?
This RTC5869 is supplied 2 per box according to our stock data. A steering linkage typically uses a track rod end at each end of the track rod, so a pair is usually needed for a full refresh. Confirm your vehicle's layout and thread direction before fitting.
Why does a track rod end fail and what are the signs?
A track rod end fails when the ball joint wears or its rubber boot splits and lets grit in, causing play in the steering. Typical signs are knocking over bumps, uneven front tyre wear and vague steering. On a Defender or Range Rover Classic a worn track rod end will usually fail an MOT.
How do I confirm this track rod end fits my vehicle?
This RTC5869 right-hand thread track rod end fits the Defender 1987-2016, Discovery 1 from VIN JA018174, and Range Rover Classic. On Discovery 1 check your VIN starts at or after JA018174. Match the right-hand thread to the correct end of your track rod before ordering.
