Hub Oil Seal - Inner for the front and rear wheel hubs, seating around the stub axle.

The seal runs on the stub axle to retain hub lubricant and exclude water, dirt and grit from the wheel bearing area. A failed seal allows oil or grease loss and contaminant ingress, leading to bearing wear. Two are fitted per axle.

Note: FRC8221 has been incorrectly superseded to this part by Land Rover - the correct replacement for FRC8221 is the heavier-duty RTC3511.

What is the FTC4785G oil seal and where does it fit?

The FTC4785G is a Corteco OEM inner hub oil seal that prevents differential oil from escaping past the hub inner face. It fits front hubs on Defender (from VIN LA930456 and 7A000001+), Discovery 1 (from VIN JA032850), and Range Rover Classic (1970–1994). Supplied as a single seal for the inner hub position only.

What is the difference between FTC4785G and FRC8221G?

FRC8221G is a different seal that Land Rover incorrectly listed as a supersession for FTC4785G. The correct alternative for FRC8221G is RTC3511G — not this part. Always use FTC4785G for the front hub inner seal on the listed applications, and do not substitute FRC8221G.

When should the FTC4785G hub inner seal be replaced?

Replace this seal when you notice oil weeping past the hub inner face, during front hub rebuild, or during wheel bearing replacement — the seal is always disturbed during hub disassembly. Renewing it as a matter of course rather than reusing the old seal is standard practice during any front hub strip-down.
