Drag Link Ball Joint Kit for the steering box drop arm on power-assisted steering boxes.

The ball joint forms the articulating connection between the steering box drop arm and the drag link, transmitting steering movement from the box to the road wheels. This kit supplies the parts to overhaul a worn joint: ball pin, top and bottom sockets, ball housing, retainer, spring, spring rings, O-ring, dust cover and cover plate.

The joint is pressed into the drop arm with a service tool; the ball pin is then assembled to the drag link and secured with a castellated nut and a new split pin tightened to the specified torque.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Drag Link Ball Joint Kit for?
The Drag Link Ball Joint Kit overhauls the ball joint between the steering box drop arm and the drag link on power-assisted steering boxes. This joint transmits steering movement from the box to the road wheels on the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic.
What's included in the kit?
The kit includes the ball pin, top and bottom sockets, ball housing, retainer, spring, spring rings, O-ring, dust cover and cover plate. It supplies everything to rebuild a worn drag link joint rather than replacing the complete drop arm assembly.
What are the signs the drag link ball joint is worn?
A worn drag link ball joint typically shows as steering free play, knocking over bumps, or vague steering on the Defender, Discovery 1 or Range Rover Classic. Play in this joint reduces steering accuracy because it sits between the steering box drop arm and the drag link.
How do I confirm this kit fits my vehicle?
This kit fits power-assisted steering boxes on the Defender up to 2016, Discovery 1 (1989-1998) and Range Rover Classic. Each application has its own VIN start point, so check your chassis number to confirm the correct steering box variant before ordering.
