Upper Link Ball Joint for the rear suspension A-frame (top link).

The joint sits at the apex of the rear A-frame, where the frame meets the top of the rear axle. It locates the axle laterally and resists drive and braking torque while allowing the axle to articulate over uneven ground. The tapered ball pin presses into the A-frame fulcrum bracket and is normally fitted using a dedicated press tool.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Upper Link Ball Joint do?
The Upper Link Ball Joint forms the pivot at the top of the rear A-frame, connecting the A-frame apex to the top of the rear axle on the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic. It keeps the axle located laterally while allowing it to articulate over rough ground.
What's the difference between this and RHF500110D?
RHF500110D is listed as a cross-reference for this same rear A-frame ball joint. This RHF500110R is the aftermarket version, and both fit the identical A-frame apex position on the Defender, Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classic, so they're interchangeable by fitment.
How is this ball joint fitted to the A-frame?
The tapered ball pin presses into the A-frame fulcrum bracket, so fitting this joint normally needs a dedicated press tool. It's typically a workshop job because the pin has to go in squarely to seat and wear correctly.
Which models and VIN ranges does this fit?
This fits the Defender 1986-2006 throughout, Defender 2007-2016 from VIN 7A000001, Discovery 1 (1989-1998), and Range Rover Classic up to VIN KA638683. Confirm your chassis number against these breaks before ordering.
