Frequently asked questions

What is the LR020610 crankshaft oil seal and what does it do?
The LR020610 crankshaft oil seal is the rear main seal for the 2.2L and 2.4L Duratorq TDCi Puma diesel. It seals the rear of the crankshaft where it exits the block at the flywheel end, keeping engine oil off the clutch face.
Where is this crankshaft oil seal located on the engine?
This crankshaft oil seal sits at the flywheel end of the engine, between the rear of the crankshaft and the cylinder block. Access typically means removing the gearbox, clutch and flywheel first, so it's usually done during a clutch job.
What are the signs the rear crankshaft seal needs replacing?
A failing rear crankshaft seal typically shows as an oil leak at the bellhousing, often with oil contaminating the clutch. The seal hardens and weeps with age and heat. Left unchanged, oil on the clutch causes slip and premature clutch failure.
Which Defender engines does the LR020610 seal fit?
The LR020610 fits the Land Rover Defender 2007-2016 with the 2.4L Duratorq TDCi 140PS Puma (VIN 7A000001 to BA999999) and the 2.2L 122PS Puma (VIN from CA000001). Confirm your engine variant against the VIN before ordering.
