Clutch Slave Cylinder is the hydraulic actuator in the clutch release circuit, converting pressurised fluid from the clutch master cylinder into mechanical force to operate the clutch release mechanism.

When the clutch pedal is depressed, fluid pressure extends the slave cylinder piston, which acts on the release fork to disengage the driven plate from the flywheel and allow smooth gear changes.

Designed for Puma TDCi diesel engine applications.

Frequently asked questions

What does the clutch slave cylinder do?
The clutch slave cylinder is the hydraulic actuator in the clutch release circuit. When you press the clutch pedal, fluid from the master cylinder extends the slave piston, which moves the release fork to disengage the clutch. It's fitted to the Puma TDCi Defender.
Which Defender does the LR068979A slave cylinder fit?
The LR068979A clutch slave cylinder fits the Land Rover Defender 2007-2016 with the Puma TDCi diesel engine, from VIN 7A000001. Confirm your Defender is a Puma model before ordering, as the earlier Td5 clutch uses a different release setup. Use your VIN to verify.
What are the signs a clutch slave cylinder is failing?
A failing clutch slave cylinder typically shows as a clutch pedal that goes soft or sinks to the floor, trouble selecting gears, or fluid loss in the clutch hydraulic circuit. On the Puma Defender a spongy clutch pedal is a common sign the slave cylinder needs replacing.
Should the slave cylinder be replaced when changing the clutch?
Replacing the clutch slave cylinder during a clutch change is common practice on the Puma Defender, since access is already open and the unit shares the clutch's working life. Fitting a new one avoids a repeat strip-down if the old slave cylinder fails soon after.
